Showing Your Support
While Shadows of Isildur is, and always will be, completely free to play, the costs of developing and
maintaining it are not insubstantial. Therefore, we have made the decision to allow our players to help
support the project monetarily, by donating to a fund that is used solely to pay for our machine,
connection, and other administrative overhead. Our hope is one day to have a large enough community of
contributing individuals that the project will become entirely self-sustaining, and therefore independent
of any one source of funding.
If you are unable to donate to our fund, that is completely fine; you should in no way feel obligated to do
so! If you wish, a very convenient (and free) way in which you can help us gain free advertising and exposure is
to vote for us regularly on
TopMudSites, MudConnector and MudMagic, three very popular MU* resource sites that drive quite a bit of traffic (and new players!) to our site when we are in high-visibility positions in their ranking lists.
Donation Policies
If you wish to donate monetarily to the project and help defray these costs, you are
certainly welcome to do so. First, however, please be sure that you are familiar
with our policies regarding monetary donations to the MUD:
- All contributors shall remain anonymous to the playerbase.
- Donations carry no in-game rewards whatsoever.
- Donations grant no additional website or community access.
- No non-staff member may donate in excess of $300 per year.
- Accepted donations in no way create contractual obligations on either party.
- Donations are used solely for server- and community-related expenses and overhead.
Our server and bandwidth costs alone run Traithe over $250.00 USD per month, in addition to DNS and domain-name fees. Thus,
any and all monetary support from our community to keep Shadows of Isildur online is gratefully welcomed.
The Donation Process
Donations are accomplished through a direct payment via PayPal, a trusted leader in secure internet commerce,
for an amount you specify. All you will need to send money is a card from one of the major credit card companies,
or a bank account. At no time do we have access to any of your payment details; the entire transaction
is handled by PayPal from start to finish.

Support Subscriptions
As an alternative to a one-time donation, we now offer monthly "subscriptions" to those who wish to support
the community and defray our operating costs. Like one-time donations, these "subscriptions" carry no
in-game benefits whatsoever, and will have no effect whatsoever on your gaming experience here. They are
offered as a convenience for those who wish to donate regularly but might not otherwise remember to do so.
All subscriptions are billed on 30-day cycles, and cancellation is available at any time.
